Solar Decoder was created by Darren Walton to give people a clear picture of what they’re really getting when offered a solar package. Installers often suggest bigger systems based on “future needs,” but the truth is nobody knows what the future looks like. You might get an electric car or a heat pump, but you could just as easily end up with better insulation, more efficient appliances, or simply using less energy.

That’s why it makes sense to focus on what you know today: your household’s current energy costs, the times of day you use the most electricity, and how energy prices might change.

Think of the Solar Decoder simulation as a guide. It won’t predict the future perfectly, but it will help you choose a system that’s the right size for your home. A good rule of thumb is to aim to break even on your yearly usage - that’s usually where you’ll see the best value.
